Born 1976
Playing drum in progressive/alternative rock bands leading into inevitable Z A P P A 'isms and then on to working within the post-Coltrane influenced Jazz school. Musical exploration is taking him through (real) Jazz and Improvised music as a timekeeper with an ear for texture, colour and extreme creative energy.
Although strongly rooted in the traditions of Sunny Murray, Elvin Jones, Milford Graves, Paul Motion, Daintons drumming is very much is own. Musical encounters include Tony Oxley, Evan Parker, Simon H Fell, Tony Bevan, John Edwards, Martin Archer, Matt Wand, Mick Beck, Jeffrey Morgan (USA), Helmut Lemke (Germany), Scott Fields (USA), Ricardo Fernandez-Fuentes (Spain) Matthew Ostrowski (USA) Joachim Zoepf (Germany), Ben Patterson (Fluxus USA).
"The ability to communicate on all levels through improvisation, embracing personal emotion and Spirituality is the eventual goal of my work".
Current projects are the telepathic duo with Sheffield based guitar legend John Jasnoch, duos with London based DJ Pash and Manchester based pianist/organist John Ellis (NINJA TUNE/The Cinematic Orchestra/The John Squire Band) and the 'Fist of a Pacifist' trio (Dainton/Fernandez/Dr Hood) extrapolating 'earth jazz' rules across the UK.
