Born 1953 - Isle of Sheppey, Kent
Took up guitar at 14, serving an apprenticeship playing various kinds of popular music in the South-East of England. From 1978, while resident in Reading, began performing music that was primarily or entirely improvised. Upon moving to Sheffield in 1980 made contact with the group of musicians who were to become main collaborators for the next 25 years. Through the 80's and 90's played in a number of fixed and ad hoc line-ups, notably Bass Tone Trap, The Modum Quartet and The Bone Orchestra. Forged long term working relationships with Charlie Collins, Rob Dainton, Martin Archer and Helmut Lemke. During this time played widely in mainland Europe and North America both as a soloist and in groups with, among others, Jeffrey Morgan, Wally Shoup and LaDonna Smith. Was a participant in the 1988 Company Week.
Current focus of activity includes The Navigators (trio with Charlie Collins and Beatrix Ward-Fernandez) and the Para-Music Ensemble (quartet with Scott Hawkins, Richard Head and Charlie Collins).
